Met Gala or Met Ball is the fashion world’s most glamorous, star studded event held annually on the first Monday of May. As always, the event was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The most exclusive party, hosted by the fashion magazine Vogue, was attended by the biggest names from various fields including fashion, films, business, sports, music, media.

The event is organized to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume which has over two million collections of costumes, accessories, paintings, sculptures, musical instruments from all over the world. The Met Gala was established in 1948 as a way to raise money for the then newly founded Costume Institute. Over the years it has emerged as a lucrative fund raising event which reportedly raised a whopping $17.4 million in 2022. This year the cost of a single ticket was set at $50,000(Rs 50 lakhs), while the table prices started at $300,00 (Rs 2.5Cr). Some celebrities pay for these tickets and in most cases the entry cost and costumes are sponsored by major fashion houses and brands.

Fashion’s biggest night was co-chaired by Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour, Michaela Coel, Penelope Cruz, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa. Until the event, guest list is a top secret which is approved by Vogue’s editor-in-chief and her team in advance.

The Met Gala 2023 theme was “Karl Lagerfeld : A line of Beauty" in tribute to the legendary German fashion designer who died in 2019 at the age of 85. The dress code was “in honour of Karl” with many guests wearing the creative designer's referential designs. The annual fund raiser event serves as an opening celebration for the Museum’s annual fashion exhibition that runs for several months.

Celebrities who graced the red carpet event were Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, Alia Bhatt, Isha Ambani, Anne Hathaway, Gigi Hadid, Jeremy Pope, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and many others.
